Peter and the Wolf
March 27 & 28, 2004
Myrna Loy Center, Helena, MT

Artisan Dance presents ballet Sergei Prokofiev's narrated symphonic fairy tale for orchestra, Peter and the Wolf. This colorful, lighthearted work presents a cast of characters each illustrated by a different musical instrument to teach children the timbres of the orchestra. Choreographed by company director, Sallyann Mulcahy, the story comes alive with colorful animated dancing. Presumably for children, adults will be equally enchanted. Artisan Dance dancers will be joined by Carroll College students to complete the cast. Share punch and cookies with the characters after the show.

Artisan Dance, under the direction of Sallyann Mulcahy, presents Amazing Grace July 19-23 at the Myrna Loy Center. Montana’s professional ballet company in residence at Carroll College consists of ten dancers from around the country who bring their skill together for diverse performances of classical and contemporary dance. The company celebrates its 11th summer season with three new premieres by the company’s director. Mulcahy’s choreography takes the refinement of classical ballet technique to the edge with intricate and sweeping energized contemporary movement often expressing depth of emotion or lightness of heart. The first new ballet, Allemande and Such, will present a glimpse of the past in baroque fashion with an interesting twist to the music of Bach. Amazing Grace will move the soul with a quiet sensitivity and Song of a New Voice, to music by Dvorzak, expresses the movement of freedom and images of American landscape, hope and energy. Also on the program returns the audience favorite tango ballet, Reserved Ground to the music of Astor Piazzolla and the exciting classical pas de deux from Don Quixote.
